Lotus Lamp by John Cook

This one-of-a-kind glass and copper lamp will provide a shining focus to any room.
Stands approximately twenty-four inches high
-- Price $545.00 (Item #JC003)

John Cook Studios creates lamps which are unique. They use their own molds to cast the lamp base, their own dies to stamp and coin the copper leaves. These parts are silver soldered together, the lamp is copper plated and their specially formulated patina is then applied. The tubing is individually hand bent and the glass shades are blown by hand without the use of a mold. These methods insure each lamp is unique even among the lamps of the same style. The Lotus Lamp is a limited edition lamp which is signed, dated and numbered.

Artist Biography
John Cook was born in Hollywood, California in 1947. He studied with internationally known glass artist John Burton for two years, after which Cook received a scholarship to Brooks Institute of Fine Art. He graduated with honors in 1972, receiving his B.F.A.

John lives and maintains a studio and gallery in Gearhart, Oregon. His current work is an eclectic mix of vases, bowls and perfume bottles -- many with applied silver glass decoration resembling a metal stand. John also does pieces based on floral motifs. His lamps and lighting fixtures are designed and made at his studio including the metal work. John has exhibited in many galleries and museums both nationally and internationally.

Bubble Gum Blue by Hilltop Artists in Residence

This handsome vase offers a nice combination of pinks and blues. With white carnations and the morning sun, this piece becomes the focus at any breakfast nook.
Nine inches high
-- Price $245.00

Glassblowing has long been considered an elite art and this art form is rarely offered to youth. In the Hilltop and Northend neighborhoods of Tacoma, however, the Hilltop Artists in Residence hot shops have captured the attention and imagination of middle and high school students.

Created in 1994 in partnership with Tacoma Public Schools, Hilltop Artists provides a daily program of arts instruction, academics, tutoring, and mentoring. Drawn in by the excitement and danger of 2000 degree glass, students, ages 12-20, must also be enrolled or re-enrolled in a certified school program.

Master glass artist Dale Chihuly frequently works with Hilltop students to teach the skills of this breathtakingly beautiful art form. Glass blowing and glass arts in combination with academic support build on the creative and social strengths of youth. Students become contributing citizens, recognized as assets to their community.
